Helstar
"Glory of Chaos"
Label: AFM Records
Second album for the legendary Helstar after their reunion and as the previous one it leaves mixed emotions to the old school fans. From the one side, the tremendous singer James Rivera shows us with the most emphatic way that the metal flame still burns inside him, but on the other side the new album “Glory Of Chaos” will divide the fans as, even though it’s 100% metal, its sound has escaped pretty much from their first four classic albums by being much more aggressive, with his voice sounding the same aggressive on most of the songs. The very good production along with the dynamic compositions are the main characteristics of the album which, with the right promotion, can attract new fans for the band as the new wave of heavy/thrash have much effect lately. All the nine compositions are in high level, without any filler and without unneeded modernisms, from a band that its passionate playing shows that its reunion is absolutely true. Furthermore, how much commercial success can a band like Helstar have? Personally I felt a little disappointment after the first listening, as I expected a return to their 80’s sound, but soon after this first small shock, the “Glory Of Chaos” accomplished to earn me with songs like “Trinity Of Heresy”, for example, that surely will make the same to you. James Rivera, as he has already shown to us during his recent appearances in Greece, is still one of the best metal voices and a true metalhead. I wish the new album “Glory Of Chaos” will have the success that it deserves and that the new generation of metalheads will learn about one of the most underrated bands of U.S. metal.
