"Trinity"

Label: Napalm Records

Sounds weird, but this is the new cd of the already split-up Revolution Renaissance!! A few months after his deal with Napalm Records, and after he accomplished to structure an amazing line up, he decided that their short path ended. And all these after a very good third album that had the qualities to push the band to the top of the new power metal scene.

Timo Tolki left behind the unsuccessful experiments of “Age Of Aquarius” and his last Stratovatius cd and on “Trinity” he returns to his classic sound which all the Strato-fans loved back in the 90’s. As a proof is the 7 first songs of the new album that if they had been released ten years ago, maybe now they would have been already power metal classics. Any of you who you had the chance to hear the first Revolution Renaissance CD, “New Era”, it is for sure that you will be satisfied to the top, with the difference of course that the vocals of Gustavo Monsanto on “Trinity” surely can’t reach the quality of Kiske, Sammet and Rantanen who had done the vocals on the debut CD. On the other side the participations of Bob Katsionis on keyboards and Magnus Rosen on the bass help to heighten the compositions’ level. “Trinity” closes with the atmospheric ten minute title track and the ballad “Frozen Winter Heart”. Both of them, without being bad songs, are not so good as the previous tracks. Maybe this opinion is subjective, but I believe that Tolki’s good ideas on this kind of songs finished successfully after the release of the fabulous “Elements Pt.1” some years ago

“Trinity” ends with the best way the short career of Revolution Renaissance, showing that Tolki, whenever he wants, still he can offer some very good songs to the few ones who still insist on the classic 90’s power metal sound. Furthermore, don’t forget that if something was closer to heavy metal 15 years ago, that was the power metal sound of Blind Guardian and Stratovarius and definitely not Slipknot’s pop rock with the harsh- supposed vocals.
