Sahg
"III"
Label: Indie Recordings
Norway’s Sahg returns with a new, third album which is again named in Latin number. The band comes from Bergen but instead of black metal they prefer epic, doom metal! However unbelievable this might sound there are some suspicions after listening to Sahg on why the new Darkthrone efforts sound the retro way they do… Those who’ve heard their previous albums won’t be surprised since their mix of all Sabbath eras with Count Raven & Candlemass is still very fruitful. The powerful vocals that charm every one who is sick of listening to growls in all metal styles, reminding Bigelf in a way and the ‘filthy’ yet fresh sound are the main issues in the band’s sound plan. The ‘thick’ guitar sound (Iommi ways) with the intelligent riffs, the ‘spreaded’ (Mastodon style) drumming and the mature choruses can easily impress fans who like both classic and contemporary metal in one pack. Best moments are the opening “Baptism Of Fire”, super heavy “Mother’s Revenge” and “Downward Spiral”, still all tracks are filled with their own personality and don’t look alike. While the CD is so heavy and with strong dynamics the band has shortened the track lengths creating more catchy material. Don’t be afraid though; turn the volume and let it flow. At last, some classic metal with potentials…
