Issa
"Sign Of Angels"
Label: Frontiers Records
Issa is promoted as the new revelation for Frontiers Records or, maybe, an opportunity for the label to open up to younger audiences. Hailing from Norway, the 26 year old Issa, with her melodic voice and sexy look, she releases her debut album after making herself well known locally through co operations and secondary work with some significant names in the genre. The co operations continue in the album as well, with Uli Kusch (Masterplan. Helloween) on the drums but also with Joacim Cans (Hammerfall), Thomas Vikstrom (Candlemass) and Soren Kronqvist (Crash the System) contributing with several songs. The album by itself is a mixture of Hard AOR and pop rock, characteristic of the Scandinavian rock culture, with polished choruses and guitar parts as hard as possible. The sings and their sound production, without being spectacular, focus mainly on Issa’s voice and performance, who does a pretty decent job. Therefore, don’t expect long solos or ornamental instrumental parts. Consequently, the musicians that accompany Issa seem to drop to a secondary level of attention, without becoming irrelevant at any point. In general, Sign Of Angels is quite agreeable to listen to and it is worth checking out, especially since you can listen to the first single “I’m Alive” and view the video here. |
