"Medusa Groove"

Label: Eonian Records

I really appreciate this label for specializing (among others) in bringing hidden treasures of the past out of obscurity. The more traditional hard ‘n heavy fans should celebrate with such releases in these hard, modern times.

Charlotte is an American band and this is quite obvious even only by putting down the top-brand names that make up their influence list.: Great White, Guns ‘n Roses, XYZ (of their second album era mainly). And not to leave the great music breeder UK out of the picture, let’s not forget that all of their music’s identity relies on the highly influential Led Zeppelin. Therefore, with a heavy heart, someone would list Charlote to the broader glam genre since their compositions tend to stick to the more straight forward hard rock’n roll tought by the English and perfected by the Americans in the 70s and 80s.

Charlotte’s music in “Medusa Groove” is tough, dynamic but not that sleazy at least no as much as the average fan would expect. The cover does not tend to emphasize towards something specific, however inside the energy is abundant and toughness is up to the brim. Without touching any Metal aspect, the use of keyboards would be considered forbidden. OK, I admit that AC/DC came to mind without Charlotte sounding too simplified. The blues licks are evident, creating a mix that the fans of this solid sound will honor.

Yes, this collection contains songs by Charlotte written at least two decades in the past, throwing a veil of recollection, however contradicting the contemporary demands. Taking under consideration that this band from Los Angeles was not a highly popular one, it is of question how come other similar bands find the same obstacles. “Medusa Groove” might not be a revelation, but it would as well have some success during their prime.

This music has the ability to reshape feelings as long as there are no a priori derectives. Charlotte dig deep into the American hard rock marrow and it’s up to you to decide if you fancy such a thing.
