Firewind
"The Premonition"
Label: Century Media Records
Our fellow countrymen Firewind - since their line-up has remained totally greek for the last two albums - return with their new cd "The Premonition" and aim to make their status in the national power metal metal stage even more solid. I listened to the new cd in a state of confusion so I didn't want to judge the cd based on a quick enthusiasm or an impatient disappointment.
"The Premonition" is the natural continuation of the "Allegiance" which had been really loved and had impressed us mainly with its sharp sound and the personal structure of their songs that had started to appear. Firewind themselves during our interview confirmed what I believed. Thus, the fact that they intended to maintain and reinforce the characteristic sound of the band, making songs that sound like pure Firewind and uniting the influences they that never denied they have to make a final piece of work of five musicians who know where they are going. So the new cd may not have so many impressive moments as the previous but it has not the "gaps" and the lack of connection that sometimes someone noticed in "Allegiance". This by no way means that the new cd lacks good and impressive songs. Take "Angels Forgive Me" for an example. One last comment is that, in my opinion, in the face of Apollo Firewind have found a trademark singer who has a really distinctive colour in his voice.
Firewind are already a well known and important band in their genre. The next step would be to see some bands starting to play like Firewind. I wish that we see it happen. |
