"Sleeping In Traffic Part Two"
Label: Inside Out/SPV
For those who are wondering when "Part One" came out this answer is exactly one year ago! I have never heard of this band before "Sleeping In Traffic: Part Two" and shame on me for that. Notable for their 70's progressive rock sound, the album has only eight tracks. But don't let that fool you because they follow the classic progressive fashion lengthwise and especially musically. Elements of early Genesis, Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull are spotted within their songs.
Before listening to the album I noticed the titles of the songs and after listening to them I could see the poetry behind both title and music. "Sleeping in Traffic: Part One" and "Part Two" revolve around 24 hours of a person's life. In "Part Two" we start off with "As The Sun Sets" as it sets the mood for the rest of the album. The bad thing about prog rock is that it can tire you easily if its changes are abrupt. This is not the case with Beardfish. Their alternations in the music are smooth and gradual which makes it more pleasing to the ears. "Into the Night" has clearly Genesis rhythmic ideas soaked in it. Interesting is the word I would use for the rest of the album and for the last song "Sunrise Again" I would describe it as illuminating. A poetic way to end the album with all of its up's and down's.
Beardfish did a fantastic job into making their music sound timeless. Making the album sound ever so 70's is truly an accomplishment nowadays. Keeping the audience interested is a tough job especially for those who don't listen to prog rock to understand its concept. For young and old audiences of progressive rock this is an album that will intrigue you giving you full coverage of classic sounds as well as original material. |
