Crazy Lixx
"New Religion"
Label: Frontiers
Not spending a minute more than what needed, Crazy Lixx recuperate with a new album, with a bigger label this time and they take off right from where they landed two years ago with their exceptional debut album. Following the exact same recipe, the band from Sweden, avoid all the rough terrain and build up their discography with yet one more very good album aiming to establish themselves to the public conscience as one of the most promising and dynamic bands of the genre. Consequently, no one expected any surprises and the total package is made of what it should be made of. Sleaze-AOR to Hard Rock with a high satisfaction factor, strong guitar riffs and melodic, “catchy” choruses. The ideal recipe for the 80s. Nevertheless, what are the feelings that this thing produces today? In any case, what it tries to do is repeat exactly what they had two years ago and it makes it happen. Easily. However, this is the trap in this case and they can’t manage but to fall in. No matter how Chris Laney tried to produce a different sound to the whole project, the songs are no more than a repetition of the debut material. A slight differentiation to the vocal harmonies, may seem interesting to some, especially to Def Leppard fans (up to a point), past that, though, there’s nothing new and if you expected it, unfortunately this is a miss. Whatever the case, this album is pretty good and straight to the point. Therefore, “mission accomplished”. After all, insisting in any new, refreshing qualities in this genre is, more or less, redundant. Some times, the old, successful recipe in some things is exactly what’s needed.
