Them Crooked Vultures

"S/T"

Label: DGC/Interscope

It’s quite hard to figure out from the band’s name that John Paul Jones plays the bass guitars on this recording! Along with him Dave Grohl, on drums and Josh Homme, on vocals / guitars, take a break from Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age to jam with one of their idols.

The album is a creation of musicians from song writing to production matters. It’s obvious that such experienced fellows would never trust their work to others nowadays. As a result the CD is so true as few albums in today’s straight rock. Tracks like “Scumbug Blues”, “Dead End Friends” stick and shake your head with their rhythms. Others like “Reptiles”, “Bandoliers”, in an era where ‘everything has been played in rock’, offer some quite original riffs. Needless to mention there are experiments in technical matters like the bass sounds and some pedal effects. In a nice, simple and neat way this threesome kicks the ass of all these new bands that sell their faces instead of their songs.

Even though “Them Crooked Vultures” is a collective work, a credit is given to the charismatic (and maestro of the band) frontman. Josh Homme with his impressive albums is declared the leading, rock musician of 00s. Besides that you must listen to this self-titled debut of this act. It’s so good that Zeppelin fans might not believe what they hear…
