Glenn Hughes
"First Underground Nuclear Kitchen" (F.U.N.K)

“The Voice of ROCK is BACK!…” New album from the Voice, entitled “First Underground Nuclear Kitchen”. Once more, Glenn Hughes proves his loyalty to his soul/funk/jazz/progressive forms, only that this time he’s gone a little further. So, he follows all this typical forms but at the same time he’s broadened his musical horizons. I don’t know what he feed his head with, but it must be very good (lucky guy!). First time listening to the album, it musically sounded something like Red Hot Chilli Peppers (see “Crave” and the self-titled) -except for the voice of course- but thereafter you begin to capture the mood and you see that nothing happens by chance and the first impression fades away. It’s then when you realize that this is a multidimensional album. As far the voice is cocerned, it is simply fantastic! His high notes are exactly how they should be and his typical “mewing” remains his trademark! In the above I mentioned “progressive” and multidimensional, because there are songs for example like “Satellite” that reminds of Toto, then there are songs like “Imperfection” or “Where’s The Will” that you can enjoy in front of the pool of a hotel drinking a “frappe” (well, regarding the pool I’m just kidding), while through “Never Say Never” and “We Go To War” he proves that he was born and still remains an original rocker! At my humble opinion, this a very good album in general and it is recommended not only to Glenn’s fans but also to listeners who just want to widen their knowledge about music.
