"Sovereign"

Label: Century Media

Well you don’t have to wait for more Bay Area refreshing or should I say for a comeback; since there are many old pals in here! The band started as project by the Canadian axeman Jed Simon (ex - Strapping Young Lad and more) in 1996 and then went on after he met guitarist also- Glen Alvelais (ex - Forbidden, Testament). After five years they decided to expand by bringing in Strapping Young Lad’s rhythm section, Byron Stroud and the mighty (Gene Hoglan – a Bay Area legend himself!). After several hearings the microphone was handled by Steve “Zetro” Souza, former of Exodus god dam’it!!

“Sovereign” starts super-attacking with Hoglan blasting like a maniac and Zetro screaming like never before on the impressive riffs of “Being And Nothingness”. Following is by the deadly aggressive Indulge Me”, “Crown Of Thorns”, “Take A Long Line” and the more ‘majestic’, mid-tempo (not groovy!) “Unnameable”, “Going Down” that leave nothing standing. They continue their immense attack with Hail! Hail!” (and a wonderful bridge with a lead) and close up with the more technical “Watching You Burn” and the leading title track. The band, for about 35 minutes, gives lectures of contemporary, demolishing thrash metal and takes no prisoners; so stand out of their way! It’s definitely the best Bay Area album since Testament’s “The Gathering”, ten years ago!

Sovereign”: the thrash masterpiece we’ve all been waiting to shut down this rotten decade. It’s an astonishing album with nine tracks, one better than the other and the sound warranty from Andy Sneap and Vincent Wojno. The record all Bay Area fanatics have awaited is here! Hail Tenet! Bye or F.O.A.D!!!
