Felony
"Helltown Hotel"
Label: Eonian Records
Felony is an American Hard Rock-sleaze band which was formed somewhere in 1989. They made some recordings which never saw the light of day until they were discovered by the newly founded Eonian Records, whose catalogue dealt with such bands. Browsing the internet, I found out that they are preparing new material. This particular CD contains 16 tracks recorded between 1990 and 1993. At a first glance, a Motley Crue (from the “Too fast for love” period) is quite evident. Just note that the singer’s name is Tomy Lee Lords. The compositions are good, aggressive and the only thing that sounds a little bad is the CD production. It does not suck… no way. It’s just that in such bands you would wish for a slightly better sound. Of course, the excuse is that the band was totally unknown and the budget too low for something better. However, as I said it’s not that bad!!! Progressing through the album we discover how much the band matures within their compositions and their mood. For instance, tracks like “Shake The Faith” and “Another Hero” show a darker and heavier side of the band. On the other hand, the first half of the album with songs like “Cat Daddy”, “Dancin’ On My Grave”, :Heist In Helltown” and “Lost In The Closet” refer to the “Too Fast For Love” Motley Crue period. In conclusion, I would suggest this release to all Motley Crue’s fans and all others that fancy this style. Moreover, I find it interesting enough that this label tries this. The artwork is also very well taken care of. I think that we should all support this effort. |
