101 South
"No U Turn"
Label: AOR Heaven
After 7 years of absence, the great band 101 South finally releases its third studio album. With a new record company by their side, the music of 101 South has now the chance to spread widely, as until now their two previous LPs had only gone round among the very fanatic AOR fans.
With their self titled debut album being probably the best melodic rock/AOR album of the decade that gets through, our expectations are very high. Even though their second album didn’t make it as good as “101 South”, although it wasn’t a bad release, the band’s new effort “No U Turn” deservedly stands beside it, fully paying back the years of waiting. The amazing keyboard player and composer, Roger Scott Craig, proves once again that he is one of the best in this genre and it is a fact that he has delivered only great albums, some of them being already classics, since 1985 that the band Fortune, where Craig played in, released its self titled album. In “No U Turn” the sound of the band has slightly changed to being milder while the southern mood that existed has been put aside, wiping away the sound of their two previous LPs. Such a change is, first of all, normal after all these years and, secondly, that doesn’t affect the quality of the final result, as the whole album is full of the amazing melodies that characterize the band. Especially the first 7-8 songs are simply tremendous, conducing in one of the best 2009 releases.
The new 101 South album is highly recommended to all the fans of qualitative melodic rock/AOR. |
