"S/T"

Label: Metal Heaven

Steve Grimmett, who is largely known by his classic releases with the infamous Grim Reaper of the 80’s, as well as Onslaught and later Lionsheart and his own band “Steve Grimmet Band”, unites forces with the guitarist Steve Stine, under the name of Grimmstine. This cooperation gives us a unique combination of classic heavy metal, hard rock, ballads and progressive elements. The result is a complete album with very beautiful compositions, which cover almost every taste.

Grimmet in this album does not push himself to reach high pitched notes like in Grim Reaper, but he still retains his unique kind of vocals, which are still in high standards. The album consists of 15 tracks, which are full of variety and more than satisfying duration. Among the best tracks are the dynamic and heavy “911”, “To Catch A Killer”, “It’s Over”, “Straight As An Arrow”, with its nice intro in piano, followed by the same melody of heavy riffing, as well as “Prisoner” a slow tempo track with heavy outbursts and very nice solos from Stive Stine, and the ballad”You’ll never know” with its unique acoustic guitar intro. There are also songs with melodic hard rock lines like “Till They Take My Wings”, “This Don’t Look Like Love To Me” and “To Sing A Lullabye (Immy's Song)”, which flirts with AOR, and they obviously are composed by Steve Stine for similar audiences. The work in guitar by Steve Stine is remarkable, with multiple guitar themes, solos and impressive riffs. The only negative of the album could be its long duration (almost 72 minutes), with the existence of a somewhat big amount of slow paced songs that could tire some part of the audience.

Generally, the album is highly recommended to all the fans of the previous works of Steve Grimmett, since it is an album which is very representative of all the moments of his career, the most metal and the most melodic ones and it includes interesting and well written compositions. If you wish, you could have an idea of what the album sounds like if you follow this link, with one of the album’s most representative songs “Straight As An Arrow”.
