The Silent Rage

"S/T" (EP)

Label: Unsigned

The Silent Rage is a relatively new Greek Power Metal figure founded by their guitarist Nikos Siglidis. So far, their only official release is this EP containing 5 tracks, although their name is already well known to the Greek audience from their frequent and good live appearances, sometimes supporting big names.

All 5 songs of the EP are classic old school Power Metal in the steps of Angra, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall and maybe with some Iced Earth elements, but also with some “original” ideas for a power metal band, like the brutal vocals featured on some parts of the songs, giving a nice dynamic to them, which can be appreciated even from those who aren’t fans of brutal vocals. The EP starts with the strong track "Perished In Flames" opening with a very dynamic riff and leading to a very nice oriental harmonic melody. The verse of the song is gradually reaching maximum intensity as lead vocals of singer Kostas Tokas pitch higher, till the chorus that seems more rhythmic and stable, a pattern that The Silent Rage uses in 2 more songs as well, "Leading The Legions" and their title track "The Silent Rage". A musical motif structure quite risky for an emerging band, but it seems to be working very well for them. "Leading The Legions" (second track of the EP) is a bit more mid-tempo song with very simple musical structure, but it’s orchestrated so nicely with all the drums changes over the same repeating riffs and very melodic vocals over it, that make it a real masterpiece. Very nice song is also the self-titled “The Silent Rage”. Very emotional, with excellent piano melodies that sometimes are as a lead institution and other time as background to very nice guitars melodies. In this track, we also see all the aspects of the singer’s voice, a really great voice, especially for the standards of our country which is not known for having many good metal singers. Top song of the EP is, in my opinion, the "Wings Of Tragedy". Typical power aggressive song, filled with many different riffs, many fast melodies, guitar and keyboard solos and a very dynamic chorus with a melody the gets stuck in your head from the very first listening.

The Silent Rage are going to release their first official album entitled "Inner Scars" in 2010 and if the rest of the songs are equally good to those of the EP it might be one of the best albums of the Greek Metal scene. An upcoming band that deserves your attention.
