Bert Heerink
"Better Yet..."
Label: Metal Heaven
Bert Heerink, the voice of Vandenberg, a band which had some success in the beginning of the 80’s, releases his first solo album from Metal Heaven. For this new cd, he collaborated with many famous musicians of the genre especially on the composition of the songs. Participations like Harry Hess (Harem Scarem), Bob Daisley (ex-Ozzy Osbourne, ex-Gary Moore), Russ Ballard (Kiss, Rainbow), Tony Martin etc, couldn’t be unnoticed and make this record much more interesting. The very good opening track “Panic Attack” isn’t a fair sample of the whole album and the reason is that it’s much heavier than the rest of the songs which have an AOR style. “Better Yet…” doesn’t contain bad songs but unfortunately it doesn’t have something special that will make me listen to it again and again. The songs don’t have enough energy for me and even as compositions they aren’t above the average. Bert Heerink’s voice is still very good, even though the years have passed. Furthermore, his performances show us that he really loves melodic hard rock even though he had many years to sing it. The fans of Bert Heerink, I think that they will be satisfied by this album and generally all the AOR listeners maybe will find something interesting in “Better yet…”. Surely it’s a fair release from a very talented and competent musician. |
