Voices Of Rock
"High & Mighty"
Label: Metal Heaven
Producers Chris Lausmann and Michael Voss teamed up to make a compilation CD featuring some of the top artists of the hard rock and metal scene, such as Tony Martin, Joe Lynn Turner, Paul Shortino, Paul Sabu and many more. The tracks are hard rock oriented with much power and drive as well as the sensitive side through its ballads. The songs that make up this compilation never reached the artists albums. One could say this compilation is a way for the songs to “see the light of day” so to speak. Tony Martin’s song “Into the Light” is the opening track. It is quiet typical of his style yet the talent and intensity of his vocal is still intact. Bert Herrink has a good song called “Shame On You” that is really enjoyable, easy to remember as Joe Lynn Turner continues with his song “Tonight” with its catchy chorus, its keyboard drenched melodies and his chilling vocals. Nothing less could be expected from the great JLT. Paul Shortino’s song “Rock Me” really toys with dynamics, musically speaking and Rob Rock stuns us with a heart-felt ballad. The songs that were not my personal favorites are Mitch Malloy’s “Lay You Down and Rest” because of its raw lyrics on a sensitive subject of the death of someone’s father, Tony Mills with “In The Heart of The Young” that sounds like it was written for a teen show. I simply think that “In the Heart of The Young” doesn’t really belong in this specific compilation. The last song is performed by Torben Schmidt, it is called “Only 4 Ever” and it’s a perfect closing for the CD as it is a simple, mid tempo song. The tracks on this compilation are well selected and it is great to have in your hard rock collection. Whether you want to blast some music on your radio at home or in your car you know you will have variety as each song is unique and very characteristic of each artist.
