Decadence
"3rd Stage Of Decay"
Label: HTI/Massacre
After two albums on their own HTI the Swedish act has agreed with old brats Massacre. It also seems that they also discovered a sound in their new album, since they present a much more pithy result in comparison to their past, where they seemed lost between thrash and power metal. They used to remind of ‘Children Of Bodom’ sometimes, ‘Soilwork’ some other, older ‘Dark Tranquility’ or even ‘Kreator’. Here the band has decided that thrash metal with a lot of melodies in the U.S. style (or occasionally German) suits her best. Rather than their Swedish ‘90s followers of those thrash waves.
You’ll find no Maiden-like leads. The vocals sound more serious than their previous CDs, close to ‘Darkane’. They have nice ideas with many rhythm changes, producing a quite technical outcome. The group sounds tight and feels so fresh in this effort that states they consider this album their debut! Problem is, despite the nice flow that they don’t have a very strong and memorable moment in particular. They don’t have a very interesting track, just a regular 10-track compilation of nicely played songs. And this isn’t enough in our days. As we shouldn’t give ‘crutches’ to older acts (see ‘Slayer’, The Cavalera Bros), we shouldn’t give them to the newcomers, too.
I guess we’ll just have to wait for “Demonic Art” by ‘Darkane’ to enjoy a top thrash metal album from Sweden. |
